Our Mission: Activation and Motivation

Focus: Core, Groin, Hip-opening, Strength

The purpose of this class is to remind the body that we need to activate and motivate the muscles to strengthen and lengthen the body. After some variations of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations), we progress to some movements from Utkatasana (Chair Pose) to our standing series.  We scan the body through the practice ensuring that the muscles aren’t just stretching but are engaged.  Slow, controlled movements make this practice develop some heat, but it isn’t designed to overwhelm or make the body/mind work too hard.  We always work to a balanced body through our postures. The class winds down with some core awareness as class moves to reclined postures on the mat.  We finish with some gentle postures like Supta Kapotasana (Reclined Pigeon) and Supta Baddhakonasana (Reclined Bound Angle Pose).  After activating and motivating the body, we are ready for the best part of our practice: Savasana.  Enjoy!
